WE ARE ORDINARY PEOPLE SERVING AN EXTRAORDINARY SAVIOR!
The hallmark of Solway Baptist Church is the preaching of God’s eternal word. One trend in preaching today is to soften the truths and expectations of the bible and the result is that truth is weakened to the point of being just another religious option. At SBC, the preaching is an unapologetic declaration of the timeless precepts from the Bible coupled with practical applications for daily life. After just one service you will realize that our intent is to glorify God to the best of our ability. Our traditional, yet exciting, congregational singing and special music aids each individual’s opportunity to participate in expressing God’s worth to them. It is a time used to bring glory to God by facilitating corporate and public worship. We hold to fundamental, biblical, Baptist beliefs. In our drifting society, where families are torn apart and violence is rampant, people need a solid and steady anchor. We believe the time-tested truths, preached with relevance and compassion at SBC, offer that anchor of peace and steadfastness people are seeking.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
At Solway Baptist Church we believe in the old time way in a new modern day. We believe in the traditional worship of God as outlined in the Bible; to worship the father in spirit and in truth. We believe that a church should be both relevant, yet Christ-honoring in all aspects of service. That simply means we do not have to compromise the word, will or work of God in order to minister with love and concern for individuals in our community and church.
THE SCRIPTURES
We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God-breathed, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to man. We believe that the Authorized Version - King James Bible is the preserved, infallible Word of God for the English speaking people. 2 Timothy 2:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 12:6-7
THE GODHEAD
We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost; and that these three are one God. Deuteronomy 6:4; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19
THE PERSON AND WORK OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, came into the world that He might manifest God to men, fulfill prophecy, and become the Redeemer of a lost world. To this end, He was born of the Virgin Mary, received a human body and a sinless human nature without ceasing to be God. Luke 1:30-35; John 1:1, 14, 18; Hebrews 4:15; Philippians 2:5-11
We believe that, in infinite love for the lost, He voluntarily accepted His Father’s will and became the divinely provided sacrificial Lamb and made it possible for man to have his sins taken away. Romans 3:25-31; 2 Corinthians 5:14; Hebrews 10:5-14
We believe He arose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He had lived and died and that His resurrected body is the pattern of the body which ultimately will be given to all believers. John 20:20; Philippians 3:20-21
We believe that on departing earth, He was accepted by His Father and that His acceptance is a final assurance to us that His redeeming work was perfectly accomplished. Hebrews 1:3
We believe that He became head over all things to the church, which is His body, and in this ministry He does not cease to intercede and to be an advocate for the saved. Luke 1:35; 1 Corinthians 15:1-3; Ephesians 1:23; Philippians 2:6-8; 1 Timothy 2:5; 1 John 2:1-2
THE HOLY GHOST
We believe that, from the moment of salvation, the Holy Ghost immediately indwells the believer and that God provides, through the Holy Ghost, power to live a successful Christian life. Romans 5:5; 8:1-9; Galatians 5:16-25
We believe that every believer receives grace from God in the form of a spiritual gift, which enables him to function as a member of the body of Christ. Romans 12:6; 1 Corinthians 12:7; Ephesians 4:7
SALVATION
We believe that no one can enter the presence of God unless born again spiritually, and that the new birth of the believer comes only through faith and acceptance of the redeeming work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God at Calvary. We believe, also, that our redemption has been accomplished by the grace of God, an unmerited gift, given in love by God and not the result of any human works. We believe the born again believer is sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption and currently possesses eternal life in Christ and is forever secure. John 3:17-18; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 3:13; Romans 4:4-5; Ephesians 4:30
We believe that the message of our Lord Jesus Christ to those whom He has saved is to make Christ known to the whole world and that this is the purpose of the church through the individuals within it. Matthew 28:18-19; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 5:11-21
We believe that local churches, such as Solway Baptist Church, gather together for practical instruction in the scriptures, for fellowship with God and with other believers, and for corporate witness to the unsaved world. Our common spiritual goal is to be like Christ and to fulfill the Great Commission. Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-47; Romans 12:5; Ephesians 4:13-16
THE RAPTURE AND THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST
We believe that a future period of great tribulation on the earth will be climaxed by the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth as He went in person in the clouds with power and great glory to establish His millennial kingdom. But prior to this tribulation, we believe there will be the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in the air to receive to Himself into Heaven both His own who are alive and remain until His coming and also all who have died in Jesus Christ; this is the bodily resurrection. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; Zechariah 14:4-11; Revelation 3:10
SIN AND SALVATION
We believe all men and women are born with an inherited sin nature received from our common ancestor, Adam. We believe that because of his nature, man is a sinner by nature and by choice, and is totally incapable of reforming himself or ceasing from his sin by his own power. We believe the only hope of deliverance for man is a change of mind concerning his sinful condition and his inability to change, and a turning to Jesus Christ as his/her Saviour. We believe that only through the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ on the cross can a man be eternally delivered from his sin. We believe that all those who by their own action, reject Jesus Christ as their Saviour are already condemned. Genesis 5:1-5; Acts 4:19; Acts 16:31; Romans 3:10-23; Romans 5:6-12; Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-6; Revelation 20:11-14
RESPONSIBILITY OF BELIEVERS
We believe that all believers should seek to walk in the Spirit, separating themselves from worldly practices and witnessing by life, by deed and by word the truths of the Holy Scripture. Romans 12; Galatians 5:16, 25; 2 Corinthians 5:9-17
We believe that all believers will be judged at the judgment seat of Christ and rewarded based on their faithful obedience to Him in this life. Corinthians 3:10-17
